Entry 057: Forty & Fabulous

We’ll never make it to our milestones if we can’t make it through our moments ~ Beth Moore

Hello fashionistas,

So, yesterday, I turned the big 40! As I sit back and reflect on all the things that have occurred in my life up to this point; I have to say I’m extremely blessed! I’ve had many ups and downs, but they’ve both humbled me and forced me to grow up. I can’t even fathom how I’ve overcome the many obstacles, but I know it was not without God. I think about all of the life experiences I can share with my readers and hope that you get something positive from my triumphs and/or failures.

In terms of fashion, I have been moving into a more mature style. I’ve always dressed according to how I felt, but to be perfectly honest, sometimes it’s best to keep your feelings to yourself, lol. I look back on some of the things I’ve worn over the years and say “Kimsue, what the hell were you thinking?” Not that the looks were bad, but some things just should not be worn when you are a woman of a particular age. It may make perfect sense to you at the time, but later on it was just plain foolishness. That doesn’t mean that I won’t still have fun with fashion. I’m more interested in wearing pieces that are timeless, command attention in a positive and fashion forward kind of way. I am embarking on a whole new journey as I enter this new decade and chapter of life and I want my style to reflect that.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Entry 056: HELLO GORGEOUS!

DSCN0910Hi Fashionistas!

Fall is the fashion industry’s New Year, so it’s only fitting that one would kick off the opening of a new, bold, beautiful and trendy boutique during this very fashionable time of year!

It’s Saturday, I arrive at the grand opening of Hello Gorgeous, located in Downtown, Rahway, NJ. I walk into fashion Heaven! The decor has a vintage appeal and you literally want to take the furniture home in addition to a few new pieces of clothing. The DJ is playing all the music I know and love, the patrons are browsing and pulling looks and making their way to the register to purchase. There’s so much going on and the energy inside is upbeat and very welcoming. I walk over to introduce myself to the owners Cristal and Chyreise who were kind enough to invite me to attend and blog about the event.

Everyone is so pleasant. As I made my way around the boutique to look at all the beautiful pieces on display; I take notice of how the owners are interacting with their clients. It’s so refreshing to see them engaging their clients and helping them select pieces to fit their fashion personalities! Some places you go to only want to sell you the item, but Cristal and Chyreise take their time to help the clients pick options that will work best for them. There’s a Henna Artist, drinks and desserts are flowing all around and everyone is in a great mood.

I love that the boutique is an intimate space. I love intimate settings and the feeling of personalized shopping is refreshing. Oftentimes, you go into these huge stores and there’s no one around to help you if needed and it’s so impersonal. The price point for the clothing and accessories are very reasonable and you won’t have to break the bank to look great!

Overall, this was an awesome experience and I am so glad that Cristal and Chyreise reached out to me to attend and blog for their special event! This is a boutique that is going to be a permanent fixture in Rahway and I hope that you all get the chance to experience the quality pieces, great prices and overall great service. If you are not in or near the area, you can always shop online! For more photos from the Hello Gorgeous Grand Opening, click here

“Reinvent new combinations of what you already own. Improvise. Become more creative. Not because you have to, but because you want to. Evolution is the secret for the next step.” Karl Lagerfeld

Creating great looks without having to go shopping is both a money and time saver!  I am striving to not purchase many new things this season, as I really don’t need anything and I am saving to move. I just purged four closets of clothing and shoes and will be giving away those pieces to my Church and a few people I know. It’s important to give back whenever possible. I try to be a blessing to others because I know what it’s like to struggle. I am creating new looks with things that I’ve already worn. There is so much you can do with the clothing you already have and if you’re like me; you have a lot to choose from. The more you can do with your pieces, the better. I have worn these boyfriend jeans a few ways and I love that I can dress them up or down.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hello fashionistas!

I love blogging and sharing with you, my looks and life experiences. I took some time away to get my house in order (literally and figuratively). I removed a lot of clutter from my life on many levels and am now feeling like I can conquer the world with a clear mind. It’s always a good idea to do some purging in your life to help make room for the more important things. I’m on a journey and things are coming to pass that I didn’t think were even possible.

Now, on to the fashion of this post! I am challenging myself this season by not shopping too much and attempting to wear all the things that I have currently, in my wardrobe. You may see some new pieces, but for the most part, there will be a lot of vintage pieces in upcoming posts. There’s nothing better than being able to create great looks with what you already own. I got these floral high waisted pants and top from Zara in May and wore it right before the weather got hot. I love it so much that I thought about the different ways I could style them separately. I can think of several ways to style these two pieces, but for starters, I decided to style them with denim and chambray for the fall.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Friday, fashionistas!

Have you ever loved something so much, that you find a number of ways to use it? Yeah, these white jeans are one of my favorites and I love to find new ways to style them. There is nothing wrong with repeating your clothing! You pay for things to be used and not collect dust, right? I don’t usually wear the same thing twice in a month, but I do repeat things. I hear a lot of people say they don’t repeat outfits. I honestly think it’s a waste not to. You don’t have to wear your stuff the same every time. That’s the beauty of maximizing your wardrobe. Having things that you can wear more than one way is great!  Since fall is approaching, I opted to wear my favorite white jeans with a sleeveless duster and suede fringed sandals! I am making an effort not to purchase anything new and to utilize all the wonderful pieces I already own. When you have a plethora of clothing in your wardrobe, you don’t need to purchase so much. I have been blessed to have a lot, so I am trying to use what I have and not add anything new to my already overwhelming, but very well-organized closets.

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Excellence does not require perfection – Henry James

I’ve never claimed to be an expert at taking pictures. Hell, I don’t even know how to set my camera to blur the background, but I will try every time until I get it right. All of the pictures you see are taken by my sister who happens to be a novice photographer. Just like fashion is my passion, photography is hers. One of these days, very soon; I am going to purchase a really great camera with all the bells and whistles and we will be capturing the most amazing photos; but for now, we work with what we’ve got. I love fashion, style, photos and writing about my life’s experiences and I want that to be reflected in my photographs. As time progresses, the pictures will improve because we are committed to bringing forth excellence in our work. I believe that location is everything and will magnify the beauty in your photos. I have the style part down pat, but still working on the quality of the photos. I’m no model and sometimes, I have issues with my poses. I think that’s because I’m thinking too much when shooting. Most of the time, I am goofing off, but that’s when the photos come out the best. I think the key for me is; don’t overthink things` and let it flow naturally. I am not trying to be anyone, but Kimsue and my photos reflect my personality. I am a goofball and life of the party and I want you to see that fun loving side of me. As far as the content; I have been more and more consistent with my blog this year. Although, it’s not where I want it to be, I know that consistency is key and I will reach the place in which I am heading. Bear with me!

Get out of your own way…Stop the paralysis…decide what you want…create a simple plan and GET MOVING! – Dr. Steve Maraboli

Creating opportunities for yourself is one of the best things that you can do to expand your brand. It’s not easy, but if you’re passionate, consistent and believe in your brand, anything is possible. I have so much in store for my personal growth and I’m glad to finally be in a position where I can make things happen. For such a long time, I’ve been afraid of my own success that I’ve allowed the fear and  lack of support cripple me. After much prayer and a conversation I had with a complete stranger; I had an epiphany. I need to get out of my own way and make it happen. If you’re like me, afraid to get out there and do your thing, don’t be! You never know the success you can have. You are the only one standing in your way!

Thanks for stopping by!

Entry 050: My 50th Post…Remembering My Dad

DSCN0259

How fitting…My parents were together for 50 years and this is my fiftieth post! One year ago today, I lost the only MAN that meant the world to me, My father! Words cannot express how much I miss him. As I write this post, Whitney Houston is playing and I am drowning in tears. If you know me, you know that I am a true Daddy’s girl! We had the most special relationship and living without him has been painful, to say the least. I am trying everyday, to be strong and continue his legacy, but it is the most difficult thing to do. I constantly wonder if I’ve made him proud. He told me many times, so I should just take comfort in that. One of the many things my Dad taught me was to never give up on anything or anyone and I strive to make people better through my actions and interactions. I don’t want to go on and be sad about losing him, but I can’t help it.

My Dad was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor. He lit everything and everyone up around him and his smile could brighten up the darkest of days. Today, my mother, sisters, son, niece and nephew visit his grave at the National Cemetery to reflect and remember the great man that he was! He shaped all of our lives and I don’t know where any of us would be without him.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post! Until next time!

XOXO Kimsue

No matter what you do in the summer, you will never really be able to cool down! It’s HOT, but I am not complaining. I long for hot summer days and dressing in comfortable clothing. This isn’t exactly the best weather to wear makeup, but I managed to capture my shots before the foundation dripped off my face. I’m wearing some old pieces paired with shorts that I purchased from H&M recently. I have so many things that I haven’t worn, so I am trying to get those things worn before this summer ends! I hope you all have a fabulous day and manage to beat the heat!

Until Next Time!

“Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed. If I fail, no one will say, “She doesn’t have what it takes.” They will say, “Women don’t have what it takes.”– Clare Boothe Luce

Being a woman is not easy, but it is beautiful! We go through so many changes, that it sometimes scares us. We take on life’s challenges with grace, elegance and style and we do it effortlessly! We are fighting battles that you would never be able to comprehend! I, like many women have gone through and will go through many things, but I thank God that I do not look like what I have been through.

Now, onto my look! I love that I can be so versatile with my style from hair to clothing! For the past two months, I’ve been sporting a wig, as I am trying to allow my hair to grow without manipulating it. I got the urge to color my hair, so I went to my nearest Walgreen’s and purchased some Dark and Lovely hair color. I love to be different and change up every now and then. There is nothing mundane about me, my look or my personality. I truly do my best to have a good time and make the best out of every life situation and today was no different.

It was an extremely hot day today and although, you cannot tell I was hot; I was literally melting! I was having the time of my life while shooting. I was stopping traffic and it was quite embarrassing, lol! I’m just a woman out here doing what I love to do and trying to make it look easy! I hope you enjoyed today’s post!
