It’s Go Time!

Taking a break helps you to understand yourself better.

With so much going on in my life it has been very difficult to map out everything that I need to get done. I write down and put a time frame on my plans so that I will execute those things in a timely manner. I got a great time table tip from my girlfriend Crystal who is the curator for www.hernameiscrystal.com. She said she gives her self 90 days for each task so that she will be sure to execute and complete the tasks. I think that is an absolutely fantastic way to set the wheels in motion because if you give yourself a deadline, you don’t want to go back on your word to yourself. For me, it has been a challenge as I stated in my last blog post to get things done to get out of my own way because I am going through so much with my health and in other areas of my life. So, just to give you a little update on me, I’ve decided that I’m going back to school to continue my studies and get my graduate degree. I took quite a bit of time off when my dad got sick and passed away from stage four lung cancer, but I know that he would not want me to be stagnant in my future goals, my blog and anything that I’m passionate about. So in an effort to continue his legacy and be the best example for my son, I am hitting the restart button on EVERYTHING. I hope that you’ll all continue with me on my journey, as I’m also in the process of writing a book. I won’t go into detail just yet, but just know it’s going to be good!

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a moment to read my blog! It means the world to me.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Entry 059: Back Like I Never Left!

IMG_5209Just when the caterpillar thought her life was over, she began to fly!

Happy Friday, Fashionistas!

It’s the first day of April and this is my first I post for the year! I’ve been gone for several months, not blogging due to a new work schedule and issues with my health. I just wasn’t feeling like blogging at all and put it on the back burner to focus on my health and other things. It’s no excuse, but when you’re not feeling something, you shouldn’t force it. I felt like I’d lost my mojo and desperately needed to get it back. Now I’m back and ready to pick up where I left off! As you may know if you’ve been following me, I am living with type one diabetes and it has been a constant struggle, a daily struggle but I am improving my health and getting my numbers down. It really is a challenge to stay on top of things when you have a crazy work schedule and other things going on in your life, but my health is paramount. Since my last post I have had some issues with my sugar and am now using an insulin pump to control my blood sugar. I’m not going to tell you that it’s easy and I’m not going to tell you that I’m not having a difficult time because I am. This is one of the most challenging things that I’ve ever had to deal with in my life! I will not let it get the best of me though. Next week, I’m meeting with another diabetes educator who is going to show me the ropes on using my insulin pump and really getting things under control. I hope that this post will find someone that is struggling just like I am and be a source of inspiration because that is what I strive to do every day of my life. I want to help people and still let you know that you’re not in this by yourself.
Thank you for stopping by!

Entry 056: HELLO GORGEOUS!

DSCN0910Hi Fashionistas!

Fall is the fashion industry’s New Year, so it’s only fitting that one would kick off the opening of a new, bold, beautiful and trendy boutique during this very fashionable time of year!

It’s Saturday, I arrive at the grand opening of Hello Gorgeous, located in Downtown, Rahway, NJ. I walk into fashion Heaven! The decor has a vintage appeal and you literally want to take the furniture home in addition to a few new pieces of clothing. The DJ is playing all the music I know and love, the patrons are browsing and pulling looks and making their way to the register to purchase. There’s so much going on and the energy inside is upbeat and very welcoming. I walk over to introduce myself to the owners Cristal and Chyreise who were kind enough to invite me to attend and blog about the event.

Everyone is so pleasant. As I made my way around the boutique to look at all the beautiful pieces on display; I take notice of how the owners are interacting with their clients. It’s so refreshing to see them engaging their clients and helping them select pieces to fit their fashion personalities! Some places you go to only want to sell you the item, but Cristal and Chyreise take their time to help the clients pick options that will work best for them. There’s a Henna Artist, drinks and desserts are flowing all around and everyone is in a great mood.

I love that the boutique is an intimate space. I love intimate settings and the feeling of personalized shopping is refreshing. Oftentimes, you go into these huge stores and there’s no one around to help you if needed and it’s so impersonal. The price point for the clothing and accessories are very reasonable and you won’t have to break the bank to look great!

Overall, this was an awesome experience and I am so glad that Cristal and Chyreise reached out to me to attend and blog for their special event! This is a boutique that is going to be a permanent fixture in Rahway and I hope that you all get the chance to experience the quality pieces, great prices and overall great service. If you are not in or near the area, you can always shop online! For more photos from the Hello Gorgeous Grand Opening, click here

Entry 053: On Repeat

Happy Friday, fashionistas!

Have you ever loved something so much, that you find a number of ways to use it? Yeah, these white jeans are one of my favorites and I love to find new ways to style them. There is nothing wrong with repeating your clothing! You pay for things to be used and not collect dust, right? I don’t usually wear the same thing twice in a month, but I do repeat things. I hear a lot of people say they don’t repeat outfits. I honestly think it’s a waste not to. You don’t have to wear your stuff the same every time. That’s the beauty of maximizing your wardrobe. Having things that you can wear more than one way is great!  Since fall is approaching, I opted to wear my favorite white jeans with a sleeveless duster and suede fringed sandals! I am making an effort not to purchase anything new and to utilize all the wonderful pieces I already own. When you have a plethora of clothing in your wardrobe, you don’t need to purchase so much. I have been blessed to have a lot, so I am trying to use what I have and not add anything new to my already overwhelming, but very well-organized closets.

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Hello Dolls and Guys!

Sunday night was a great night celebrating a great indie film! I was blessed to be a part of the crew that brought this film, Date N’ Game: The Movie together. Being a stylist is one of many things I love to do and I’m blessed to be able to exhibit my talent in this movie. Thank you, Kel Spencer for seeing my talent and allowing me to make my dream a reality. It was a celebration of hard work and a dream coming to fruition. This is only the beginning. A few photos of the cast and crew from the movie!

XOXO

Entry 034: Trend Report! On The Fringe

Sometimes, you don’t need much to accessorize an outfit. The simplest things can make your look pop! Fringes are a favorite for me! For the past few seasons, fringes have been a staple in fashion and this season is no exception. I’ve been seeing fringes all over the place! On bags, shoes clothing and other accessories. Here are a few of my favorite pieces! I’ll be doing a whole post dedicated to how to sport your favorite looks with fringes added!

Entry 021: Leopard vs Cheetah The great debate

So, it’s agreed that everyone loves animal prints, right?! Well, many people do, but some have a hard time differentiating the two. Let me help you! Cheetah spots are typically much simpler than leopards spots. A true cheetah print will consist of simple black, solid spot. Leopard spots on the other hand usually are clusters of black spots with some brown regions. They tend to look more like complicated rosettes than just dots. A true fashionista knows her prints and wears them well! What’s your favorite print? Mine is Leopard, but I do love Cheetah too! IMG_0062.JPG

Entry 001: Breaking into fall

Hello and welcome to my blog! I decided to launch my blog today, because it’s my birthday month, it’s fall and also today marks a change in hairstyles for me. I love fashion so much and I wanted to share with you, pieces of me and what I like to wear. Fashion to me is the place where you can be creative and really display your style, your personality and who you are. I have always loved to put things together and when I think I look my worst, it’s when I get the most compliments. Fashion is what you purchase, but style is your interpretation of those fashions you choose…be you and never be afraid to be expressive, no matter what the critics say!
